Lasik Post-operative Instructions
Serving Seattle, Bellevue, Everett, Olympia, and Tacoma, WA
As with other surgeries, optimum recovery is a key component of the LASIK process. Generally, our patients experience very little pain, and can resume normal activities within a few days. Most people notice immediate improvement in their vision, which may gradually continue over the next few weeks. In some cases, it may take several weeks for vision to stabilize.
Immediately afterwards
Do wear the sunglasses we provide for you because most other varieties do not give adequate protection.
You should plan to rest for the remainder of the day. Most people can return to work the following day and can legally drive without eye glasses within a few hours of their eye surgery. However, you should not drive until Everett Lasik Surgeon Dr. Leavitt verifies your vision at the one-day postoperative visit. You should avoid doing very intense exercise for 72 hours.
Initial follow-up
Your follow up care is as important as the actual procedure. Please return to our office one day after your surgery for your first mandatory post-operative appointment. This appointment time will be given to you immediately after your surgery.
Should you choose another eye care professional to provide the follow-up care, you will incur the cost of those examinations. Dr. Leavitt will need pre-and post-operative forms completed and returned to Bellevue LASIK.
After your 24-hour post-operative appointment you will receive – in person, via fax, or by mail – your refractive surgical report and post-op forms for your other eye care doctor.
Further follow-up
There are two additional, mandatory visits required for LASIK (and four for ASA). These are usually scheduled at:
- One day
- One month
- Three months
Even if everything seems fine to you, each post-operative appointment is important. They help us evaluate your healing process and monitor for any development of infection.
Please follow Dr. Leavitt’s instructions closely in the weeks after your surgery. This will include protecting your eyes from dust and abrasion and keeping them rested and well lubricated. And be sure to meet all your after-surgery appointments.
If you develop no complications after three months, an annual exam will be sufficient to monitor the health of your eyes.
