What are the Steps in a LASIK Consultation?

Some individuals spend years researching LASIK, only to find that they were never a candidate in the first place. The only way to avoid this disappointment is by having a full and comprehensive LASIK Exam. At Bellevue LASIK & Cataract, our LASIK evaluation includes three steps:

Step 1 – Complimentary LASIK Screening

The first step is to come in for a complimentary LASIK screening. We will obtain some early diagnostic tests to look at your corneas and the power of your eyes. We’ll ask exactly what you are concerned about and then answer any question you have about the procedure, Dr. Kent Leavitt’s experience and what to expect after LASIK. After meeting with one of our two doctors, If they feel you might be a good candidate for LASIK, we will recommend that you take the next step by scheduling a preoperative exam.

Step 2 – The Preoperative Exam

One of our skilled technicians will take detailed measurements of your eyes to help in determining if LASIK really is your best option. We pride ourselves on thorough testing that includes a review of your medical history, corneal map creation and testing of your corneal thickness. Your eyes will need to be dilated during this exam.

The preoperative exam requires a $149 deposit to hold your place on the surgery schedule. This payment will go toward your procedure fee. If we find that you are not a good LASIK candidate, then this money covers your dilated exam and prescription for new lenses.

Step 3 – Reviewing Exam Results

After all the appropriate measurements have been obtained and your eyes are dilated, either Dr. Leavitt or Dr. Farag will examine your eyes and help explain the test results and let you know if you’re a good candidate for LASIK or if another type of technology is more suitable. And that’s it. You’re done. The entire purpose of the Consultation is to determine IF you’re a good candidate. The next step will be up to you. We can also provide information on LASIK financing options and our 20/20 Money Back Commitment if you would like to go home and think through how you would like to proceed.
