VISX CustomVue™ Wavefront Laser Eye Surgery
Dr. Leavitt and Bellevue LASIK were among the first in the Pacific Northwest to perform CustomVue™ wavefront-guided laser eye surgery. In May 2003, prior to FDA approval, Dr. Leavitt traveled to Europe to receive training unavailable in the United States. He gained experience in the subtleties of CustomVue™ laser eye treatments while working with Dr. Julian Stevens at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
Wavefront laser technology was originally developed to sharpen the images seen by telescopes viewing distant objects in space. This same technology can now measure the imperfections in an eye's optical system with 25 times more precision than the standard method of sphere and cylinder (nearsightedness and astigmatism.) With the standard prescription many people might have the same power. With VISX CustomVue™ wavefront guided custom laser vision correction no two laser treatments are identical.
Each individual eye receives a very detailed personalized treatment designed to correct the unique imperfections in that person's vision. Wavefront laser technology adds precision and helps achieve a new level of vision.
Conventional LASIK eye surgery applies a symmetric sphere and cylinder laser eye treatment. CustomVue™ wavefront-guided custom LASIK eye surgery, performed on the VISX Star S4 laser, applies the full precision of the WaveScan wavefront analysis to the laser eye treatment pattern.
Following CustomVue™ laser vision correction, many people will see significantly better than they ever saw with eyeglasses or contact lenses.
Benefits of CustomVue™ wavefront-guided treatment over conventional LASIK eye surgery include:
- More predictable outcomes
- 98% 20/20 or better vision
- 70% 20/16 or better vision
- 27% 20/12.5 or better vision
- Better night vision
- Four times as many people are very happy with night vision
- Improved vision after laser eye surgery
- 70% see as well or better than with eyeglasses
- 58% gained up to a line of vision
- 8% gained more than one line of vision
- Better safety profile
- No loss of vision in FDA trials
CustomVue™ wavefront-guided laser eye surgery can also be used for those who previously had conventional laser vision correction and would like to further improve the sharpness and quality of their vision.
