In June of 2003 we began offering Intralase combined with custom wavefront guided LASIK. It was years later that others in the area began to realize the superiority of that combination*. In November of 2006 the military finally allowed the first fighter pilots to a have LASIK. However, the only LASIK they could have was Intralase and custom wavefront guided LASIK.” – Kent G. * In January, 2008, this combination was given the trade name of iLASIK, after Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) bought VISX and combined their two technologies. AMO’s IntraLase plus VISX’s CustomVue is the best way of structuring a LASIK procedure. Wavefront technology gives an extraordinarily detailed diagnosis of the eye’s contours, and in iLASIK, this information is used to guide the IntraLase treatment. IntraLase can also be performed without a Wavefront diagnosis, instead using the traditional diagnosis from a phoreopter. But this is less precise.
