Kent G. Leavitt, M.D. received his medical degree in 1984 from the University of Michigan Medical School. He was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, a medical honor society for the top 10% nationwide. After completing his residency training at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, he continued his training by completing a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease. He then received an academic appointment to the faculty of Wills Eye Hospital where he was a consultant for complex eye cases. He was also responsible for training ophthalmology residents and cornea / refractive surgery fellows.
Dr. Leavitt has been performing and teaching refractive eye surgery procedures since 1989. During his tenure in Philadelphia, Dr. Leavitt was a clinical investigator for the Herpetic Eye Disease study sponsored by the National Institute of Health. In 1991, he relocated to the state of Washington and, during 1992, continued teaching as a clinical instructor at the University of Washington, Harborview Hospital.
He received training for the excimer laser in Santa Monica, CA; Boston, MA; London, England; and Monaco. Following FDA approval of the Excimer laser in 1995, he was among the first laser eye surgeons in Washington to perform ASA. Dr. Leavitt has been performing laser eye surgery since 1997 and has now personally done over 11,000 LASIK surgery cases. He has managed the post-operative care of over 25,000 LASIK surgery procedures. He has also had LASIK eye surgery performed on his own eyes.
Dr. Leavitt is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He has memberships in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the Castroviejo Cornea Society, and the Washington Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.
