Conductive Keratoplasty (CK)

Serving Seattle, Bellevue, Everett, Olympia, and Tacoma, WA

Conductive Keratoplasty is a relatively new procedure that uses radio energy instead of a laser to shrink collagen tissue within the cornea. It’s a way of treating low to moderate farsightedness and presbyopia.

Are you a candidate?
NearVision CK is for those who:

  • Are tired of reading glasses
  • Have difficulty with close vision
  • Are at least 40 years of age
  • Have not had a significant change in their distance vision for one year
  • Have no health issues affecting their eyes
  • Have not had previous vision correction surgery
  • Are not pregnant or nursing

The goal of any refractive surgical procedure is to reduce your dependence on corrective lenses. However, we cannot guarantee you will have exactly the results you desire. The decision to have NearVision CK is an important one that only you can make, with Seattle Eye Surgeon Dr. Leavitt’s help. If you are a good candidate, he will give you additional information about it that will allow you to make an informed decision. Be sure you have all your questions answered to your satisfaction.

How CK works
By directing a controlled release of radio energy into the periphery of the stroma (the cornea’s second layer), Dr. Leavitt increases shrinks the tissue in those precise areas. This makes the cornea steeper and increases its focusing power. Now it will be able to bend the incoming light sharply enough to give you clear images at a close distance.

Recovery
Because NearVision CK is only minimally invasive, it brings only minimal risk and almost no side effects. During the first 24 to 48 hours afterwards, you may experience tearing and some discomfort. You may also experience a slight over-correction of your vision, but it will probably stabilize during the following weeks.
