Cataract Surgery

Serving Seattle, Bellevue, Everett, Olympia, and Tacoma, WA

A cataract is a clouding in the eye’s natural lens, located behind the pupil. The lens helps light to focus on the retina, that part of the eye that sends images to the brain. When the lens becomes cloudy, vision is disrupted in several different ways, including:

  • Blurry, foggy or hazy vision
  • Light sensitivity
  • Glare
  • Difficulty reading fine print
  • Difficulty seeing details in dim light
  • Double vision, sometimes called “ghost” images
  • Eye strain or eye fatigue

In most cases, cataracts occur in older individuals as the eyes age. However, they can occur in younger people, and risk factors include:

  • Family history of cataracts
  • Smoking
  • Eye disease or injury
  • Some medications, such as steroids

Surgical Treatment of Cataracts

When cataracts begin to significantly affect your vision and your ability to complete everyday tasks, the most successful treatment is cataract surgery using an intraocular lens (IOL). In Seattle, Washington, board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. Kent G. Leavitt specializes in cataract surgery. Dr. Leavitt has helped thousands of cataract patients regain complete, clear vision using sophisticated diagnostics and procedures.

The IOL will replace the cataractous lens. There is no way to remove the clouded tissue in the lens. So the entire lens is removed and replaced with one of the IOLs available. The IOL is positioned in the same membrane pocket which previously held the natural lens.

Premium IOLs

The IOL trade names are CrystaLens®, ReSTOR® and ReZoom®. Each offers different benefits and advantages to restore your vision and Dr. Leavitt will discuss each one with you. He will consider your vision status, lifestyle, and goals to determine which IOL will work best for you.

Today’s vision correction surgeries have completely transformed the way we see the world. Why depend on expensive, bothersome, breakable eyeglasses or contact lenses when the right vision correction surgery can provide freedom to see clearly?

If you are ready to learn more, please contact cataract surgeon Dr. Leavitt today at Bellevue Lasik and Cornea in Seattle, Washington to schedule your complimentary cataract surgery consultation.
