Comprehensive Cataract & Lens Implant Evaluation
We understand that having surgery on your eyes can be intimidating, so we do everything we can to make each step in the process as comfortable as possible, starting with this initial evaluation.
Our 2-hour comprehensive eye exam is performed to assess the health status of your eyes and to rule out other eye conditions. Here is what you can expect during your cataract evaluation:
- We will evaluate your overall eye health, systemic health and the condition of the lens and retina. We verify your prescription, check the shape and health of your corneas, evaluate the presence and extent of cataracts and determine precisely what vision solutions will be most suited to your eyes and your lifestyle.
- Both eyes will be dilated for a retinal evaluation and for other diagnostic testing as well. Dilation causes sensitivity to light and a temporary inability to see well at close range. You should arrange to have someone drive you home, if you have difficulty with being dilated.
- Finally, we counsel you on which of the artificial Intraocular Lens (IOL) options will be best for meeting your vision expectations.
Once the best procedure to improve your vision has been determined, you can decide how you want to proceed. We will be happy to schedule your next appointment or procedure date if you are ready to move forward with cataract surgery. Or you can go home and talk over your options with a loved one.
Most of our patients find the examination and consultation process enlightening. We will gladly answer every question you have so you will feel 100% confident in your decision. Contact us today to schedule your Cataract Consultation or to order our free illustrated guide about cataracts.
